IRISS Medical awarded patent for novel method of detecting strabismus (squint)

August 27, 2013. London, UK – IRISS Medical Technologies, the Eye Data specialist, has been awarded a patent for its novel method for detecting strabismus (squint). The method is used within the algorithms that power its Eye Check device – a handheld diagnostic assistance tool for ophthalmologists and optometrists. The new method involves taking a digital photograph of the patient and analysing it in real time to determine whether strabismus is present. Current available methods rely on manual examinations performed by specialists. These require a high degree of skill and experience, especially with young children. The new automated method, deployed within the Eye Check device, will complement and assist specialists’ manual examinations and will enable non-specialists to perform a strabismus test.
